The HuffPo writer falls into a (well worn) path of attributing socialism/modernism to the statements attributed to Jesus. It should be noted that the 1st century Levant worldview was quite different than that of the modern world.

Their image of Jesus is one of Republican Jesus, who preached the exact opposite of what’s actually in the New Testament.

They are not against help for the nation’s poor. They, in fact give more to charity than liberals. The difference is that they give directly, not depend on the the government to do it… The writer has a poor understanding of socialism, and even less understanding of what Jesus preached.

Arthur C. Brooks, a professor at Syracuse University, published “Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservatism.” It would surprise the writer that liberals are markedly less charitable than conservatives.

They are happy for the government to be charitable it would seem.

Also, let’s make the point about Colorado Springs here. Apparently many of the homeless people there are children kicked out of their home because they were gay. Real Christian of them. I think your idea of who is charitable is a little off. Also, I imagine the “charity” they give too are just groups that get Gay Marriage banned mostly. Like Focus on the Family. They can spend so much money on various anti-gay and anti-women intiatives and stuff, but they didn’t act like Christians when Katrina occured. I distinctly remember them doing nothing, except for boilerplate offering advice to the victims over the internet.

I suspect they are charitable to those they relate to, just like they readily forgive their own, particularly their leaders.

You can suspect what ever you want, even ignore the facts when they are right in front of you. However it is a weak argument.
